Malecón 2000

Malecón is a historical pillar of our town, since the city grew from it and it played a pivotal role in the city’s development. Being this, such an important part of Guayaquilean life, the Malecón 2000 project was created and it is our pleasure to be able to share the colors of our Malecón and within it the colors of the river. Malecón 2000 has become our heart again and we want to share it with all of our guests. You can not come to Guayaquil without visiting it, again or for the first time.

Olmedo Square

Giving it a tone of sobriety and as a great ending of Olmedo Avenue. It is on an allegoric base with cylindrical pools. Next to it is the Union Club, a private club that has been part of Guayaquil since 1927. On the north end there are 13 varied restaurants, with national and international cuisine.

Children´s playground and exercise areas

This zone was created for the people that live in the area, but it can be enjoyed by anyone. In it, we find entertainment for all, with games for children, exercise areas, rest areas, restaurants and bars. The games area has toboggans, hanging bridges, hammocks, carousels, slides, and a skating site.

Malecón Gardens

This part of Malecón is without a doubt the most beautiful and colorful one. Besides the squares and parks that complete its beauty we can learn about more than 350 native species of plants.

Henry Morgan Pirate ship

One of the many ways you can have fun at Malecón 2000 is in a ride commonly known as the Pirate Ship. It cruises throughout the Guayas River. From the ship you can see all of Malecón 2000 with its different urban backgrounds, Mount Santa Ana and Las Peñas.

Horse Carriages

With a station located in Malecón and Sucre streets, they offer horse carriage tourist routes. Their schedule of attention is Wednesdays to Sundays from 18h00 to 22h00 and weekends and holydays from 15h00 to 23h00.

MAAC- Museum of Anthropology and Contemporary Art

The museum belongs to Ecuador’s Central Bank and its design resembles a pre – Columbus ship. Inside, you can find art expositions, museums and research areas, a movie theatre and an esplanade for outdoor shows. It also counts with a food court and basic services.

The Fortín

A historical monument that was used to defend the city from pirates has been incorporated to this sector. It has been restored and placed in a proper environment so its importance is recognized.

Civic Square

It is the middle sector and of most civic representation of Malecón 2000. In this square we find the monuments with the most history, which were here before the renovation. These are:

La Rotonda, the city’s most representative monument. It commemorates the meeting of Latin America’s liberators, Simón Bolívar and José de San Martín, which took place in Guayaquil on July 25th, 1822.

The “Morisca” Tower. Another building that is considered an icon and a landmark has been made to make it more noticeable.

Integration Square

In it we find the Crystal Palace, San José Church, Flag Square and the crafts market. The renovated South Market, now known as the Crystal Palace, because of its structure and impressive design that goes back to 1907 has been declared Historical Patrimony.
