Rumicucho ruins

Fifteen grass-covered, flat-topped pyramids stare out like sentinels over Quito as far as Volcan Cotopaxi. The ruins of Rumicucho are Ecuador's most significant pre-Incan site, built high up in the Andes at 3200m, at the foot of Mount Fuya Fuya. Their location is perfectly aligned with the white capped summit of Volcan Cayambe and with the Puntiachil site, another ancient monument. Although its actual significance is unknown, Rumicucho is a sacred site, a meeting place for the spirits on the longest day of the year.
